Getting Played - Gambling Harm Education for ACT Schools

26 May 2025

Today, our young people are more exposed to gambling and gambling-like content than ever before, including through advertising, sports betting, and popular video games. Recognising this growing concern, the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission has launched an innovative high school education program – Getting Played. This initiative leverages the latest research into young people’s participation in and attitudes towards gambling and gaming.

Supported by the ACT Education Directorate, the program includes:

Two-hour teacher eLearning
Curriculum aligned resources
Information for educators, school leaders, and parents/carers.
Getting Played aims to equip young people with the critical thinking skills needed to navigate the pervasive marketing and technology landscape that promotes gambling. The program educates students on the risks associated with gambling and gaming, encourages healthy decision-making, and empowers them to seek help if needed.

We invite everyone with links to young people to get involved in this important initiative.
