Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT (SHFPACT) are offering the following TQI Accredited Courses for Teachers in Term 4, 2020

1. Relationships and Protective Behaviours Training for Teachers of PS - Grade 2 (3 hours TQI Accredited)

The goal of Relationships and Protective Behaviours Training is to build teachers' skills and confidence in delivering education about the human body and relationships to their students. 'Relationships' and 'Safety' are focus areas of the Australian Health and Physical Education Curriculum (Australian Curriculum, 2018), therefore it is vital that teachers are familiar with current content and practices in these areas. This training builds on teacher content knowledge and assists teachers to plan programs about the human body, relationships and social safety. Relationships and Protective Behaviours Training supports teachers to appropriately respond to difficult questions about the human body and how babies are made; early exposure to pornography and inappropriate behaviours in the classroom environment.

The program focuses on:

* The history of relationships and protective behaviours education in Australia

* Benefits of relationships and protective behaviours education in Australia

* Overview of the psychosexual development of children

* Understanding and identifying the psychosexual stages of development

* What's age appropriate?

* Communication skills to teach students about relationships and protective behaviours

* Responding to challenging behaviours in the classroom

* Answering difficult questions

When?

Tuesday 20 October from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm

2. Teaching Relationships and Puberty in Grades 3 - 6 (3 hours TQI Accredited)

The goal of Teaching Relationships and Puberty in Grades 3-6 is to increase teachers' skills and confidence in delivering sexuality and relationships education in primary schools. As ‘sexuality and relationships’ is a focus area in the Australia Health and Physical Education Curriculum (Australia Curriculum, 2018), teachers must deliver this content in schools.

Teaching Relationships and Puberty in Grades 3-6 is designed to support teachers in delivering this content to a high standard, fulfilling curriculum requirements and contributing to educating a generation of sexually healthy adults.

The program focuses on:

* Child sexual development

* The changes of puberty ? physical, social and emotional

* Communication skills to teach students about relationships and protective behaviours

* Responding to challenging behaviours in the classroom

* Answering difficult questions

When?

Tuesday 10 November from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm

3. Teaching Relationships and Sexuality in Secondary Schools (3 hours TQI Accredited)

The goal of Teaching Relationships and Sexuality in Secondary Schools is to increase teachers' skills and confidence in delivering sexuality and relationships education in schools. As ?relationships and sexuality? is a focus area in the Australia Health and Physical Education Curriculum (Australia Curriculum, 2018), teachers must deliver this content in schools.

Teaching Relationships and Sexuality in Secondary Schools is designed to support teachers in delivering relationships and sexuality education to a high standard, fulfilling curriculum requirements and contributing to educating a generation of sexually heathy adults.

The program focuses on:

* Sexuality, Sexual Health and Relationships Education

* Relationships and Sexuality in the Australian Curriculum

* Overcoming barriers to effective Relationships and Sexuality Education

* Skills of effective Relationships and Sexuality Educators

* Creating a safe environment for Relationships and Sexuality Education

* Diversity (LGBTIQ, people with disabilities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders) and Relationships and Sexuality Education

* Practical Approaches to Relationships and Sexuality

* Answering difficult questions

* Responding to emerging trends in school communities

Tuesday 24 November from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
