Peer Suppoprt Australia have resources to support schools during lockdown and to assist with student transition from remote learning back to school, including new materials to assist with building connection and belonging for students in a remote learning environment.
Belonging Resources - for Primary and Secondary students - available in member resource portal
This resource was developed to assist students to be cognisant of and develop their connection and belonging to their local community. It explores their connection and contributions to their household, neighbours, street and suburb. Much of a child's sense of belonging is established through their relationships, contributions and accomplishments in contexts such as school, clubs, teams and extracurricular activities. During lockdown, research has reported a disconnect for students as they reimagine their self-worth and contributions. The resource provides children and young people with a raft of suggestions for initiating and demonstrating kindness, community, thankfulness and appreciation for those around them. Not talking or writing about it, but actually doing it.
Great Transitions 2nd Edition - Primary mini-module
This Peer led mini module was originally developed in 2020 to assist students as they transitioned back to on campus schooling after lockdown. Recent feedback from teachers indicated this was a useful resource but was unsuitable due to the inability for cohorts to mix on their return in Term 4. In response, we have reworked the resource to provide alternative, developmentally appropriate implementation methods.
In addition to the original peer led resource, we now have:
- a teacher facilitated K-2 resource
- a teacher facilitated Yr 3 and 4 resource
- a teacher or student facilitated Yr 5 and 6 resource
