This Contemporary Health & Physical Education (one day) Seminar has been developed in response to feedback from the ACHPER ACT Quality Health and Physical Education Seminar held in October 2017.

Features of the seminar:

  • Presentation: ‘PE Pulse: PE Support for Teachers and Sporting Organisations.’
  • Opening keynote from ACHPER President, Associate Professor Shane Pill, ‘Models Based Instruction for addressing Physical Education content within the Achievement Standards of the AC: HPE’.
  • Primary Health workshops on the AC: HPE curriculum Focus Areas of: Mental Health and Wellbeing (Mental Illness Education ACT), Food and Nutrition (Nutrition Australia ACT), Relationships and Sexual Health (Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT; Trans-Formative-Solutions) and Safety (Cancer Council ACT).
  • Secondary Health workshops on the AC: HPE curriculum Focus Areas of: Alcohol and other Drugs (National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre), Food and Nutrition (Nutrition Australia ACT), Mental Health and Wellbeing (Mental Illness Education ACT; Jessica Nelson) and Relationships and Sexual Health (Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT; Trans-Formative-Solutions).
  • Separate primary and secondary focused Physical Education observation sessions: Co-operative Learning, Inquiry Teaching, Peer Teaching, Sport Education, Tactical Games and Teaching Personal Social Responsibility Models Based Instructional approaches. Facilitated by Associate Professor Dr Shane Pill, Jenny Hall, Head CGGS PDHPE Faculty and from the University of Canberra: Assistant Professor Dr John Williams, Margie Appel, Lecturer and student Health and Physical Education teachers.
  • ACHPER ACT Excellence in Teaching Physical Education for a Student Teacher Awards ceremony.
ACHPER is a Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) accredited provider and content from this seminar explicitly maps to the Australian Professional Teaching Standards. This event has been approved for 5 hours of TQI accredited learning. Places are restricted to 30 primary and 30 secondary teachers, so register early to avoid disappointment!
